We hear often that our country is more polarized now than at any time in its history.
While questioning that statement is important (Really? How about during the civil war?) It is easy to look around us and see examples of fake news and partisan behavior. It’s also easy to get lost in all the things that need our attention and help; such as homelessness, trafficking, border security, climate change, garbage gyres…
What is fact? What is just hype? How can I help?
How can I even talk to my relatives and neighbors about these things that matter to all of us, without it devolving into emotion?
Can I learn to value differing viewpoints as the potential for new information that they so often are?
As with anything, sorting this out starts with each of us. We can decide that we choose the truth. We can learn better ways of managing our data and our selves.
We can build a more Open Information Culture.
